Standard Operating Procedure for Maintenance of Fuel Storage Tanks

1) Purpose

The purpose of this SOP is to establish guidelines for the maintenance and operation of fuel storage tanks in pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities to ensure safe and reliable fuel supply for emergency generators and other critical equipment.

2) Scope

This SOP applies to all fuel storage tanks used within the facility premises.

3) Responsibilities

The Facilities Management Department is responsible for implementing and adhering to this SOP. The Fuel Tank Technician is responsible for the maintenance and operation of fuel storage tanks.

4) Procedure

  1. Inspection and Maintenance Schedule
    1. Develop a regular inspection and maintenance schedule for fuel storage tanks based on manufacturer recommendations and regulatory requirements.
    2. Inspect tanks for signs of corrosion, leaks, or structural integrity issues.
    3. Clean tanks and remove sediment or debris as needed.
  2. Fuel Quality Monitoring
    1. Implement procedures to monitor and maintain fuel quality, including regular testing for water content, sediment, and microbial growth.
    2. Use fuel additives and treatments as recommended by fuel suppliers to prevent degradation.
  3. Emergency Procedures
    1. Develop and maintain emergency response procedures for fuel spills, leaks, or other incidents.
    2. Train personnel on emergency shutdown procedures and spill containment measures.
  4. Documentation and Reporting
    1. Maintain accurate records of tank inspections, maintenance activities, fuel quality test results, and emergency drills.
    2. Document
any incidents, repairs, or adjustments made to the fuel storage tank system.
