SOP for Maintenance of Emergency Generators

Standard Operating Procedure for Maintenance of Emergency Generators

1) Purpose

The purpose of this SOP is to establish guidelines for the maintenance and operation of emergency generators in pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities to ensure reliable backup power supply during power outages.

2) Scope

This SOP applies to all emergency generators installed within the facility premises.

3) Responsibilities

The Facilities Management Department is responsible for implementing and adhering to this SOP. The Generator Technician is responsible for the maintenance and operation of emergency generators.

4) Procedure

  1. Preventive Maintenance Schedule
    1. Develop a preventive maintenance schedule for emergency generators based on manufacturer recommendations and regulatory requirements.
    2. Inspect and test generators regularly, including checks of fuel levels, oil levels, coolant levels, and battery condition.
  2. Generator Operation Procedures
    1. Follow standard operating procedures for starting up, operating, and shutting down emergency generators.
    2. Monitor generator parameters during operation, including voltage output, frequency, and engine temperature.
  3. Load Testing and Performance Verification
    1. Conduct regular load bank tests to verify generator performance under varying loads.
    2. Adjust generator settings if necessary to ensure reliable operation during power outages.
  4. Emergency Procedures
    1. Develop and maintain emergency response procedures for generator failures or power outages.
    2. Train personnel on emergency generator operation and evacuation protocols if necessary.
  5. Documentation and Reporting
    1. Maintain accurate records of generator inspections, maintenance activities, load test results, and
fuel consumption.
  • Document any incidents, repairs, or adjustments made to the emergency generator system.
