Standard Operating Procedure for Conducting Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Competency Assessments for Employees

1) Purpose

The purpose of this SOP is to establish a systematic approach for assessing the competency of employees in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) practices to ensure compliance, improve workplace safety, and maintain high operational standards.

2) Scope

This SOP applies to all employees, contractors, and personnel whose roles require proficiency in EHS practices, including those in high-risk job functions.

3) Responsibilities

  • EHS Manager: Oversee the competency assessment process and ensure alignment with organizational objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Assessment Coordinator: Organize assessments, track results, and provide necessary follow-ups.
  • Supervisors: Identify employees requiring assessments and provide feedback on their performance.
  • Employees: Participate in the competency assessments and apply knowledge and skills effectively in their roles.

4.1 Planning Competency Assessments
