Standard Operating Procedure for Disposal of Waste Materials

1) Purpose

The purpose of this SOP is to establish procedures for the proper disposal of waste materials generated during manufacturing processes, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and maintaining a safe and clean work environment.

2) Scope

This SOP applies to all personnel involved in the generation, handling, and disposal of waste materials within the manufacturing facility.

3) Responsibilities

3.1 Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager
– Develop and maintain waste disposal procedures.
– Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal waste disposal regulations.
3.2 Manufacturing Personnel
Segregate and dispose of waste materials as per the outlined procedures.
Report any issues related to waste disposal to the EHS Manager.
3.3 Quality Assurance
Conduct audits to ensure waste disposal practices are followed.
Maintain records of waste disposal activities.

4) Procedure

4.1 Waste Classification
4.1.1 Identify and classify waste materials (e.g., hazardous, non-hazardous, recyclable).
4.1.2 Label waste containers appropriately to indicate the type of waste.
4.2 Waste Segregation
4.2.1 Segregate waste materials at the point of generation.
4.2.2 Use designated containers for each type of waste to prevent cross-contamination.
4.3 Handling and Storage
4.3.1 Handle waste materials using appropriate PPE.
4.3.2 Store waste in designated areas with

proper labeling and containment measures.
4.4 Disposal of Non-Hazardous Waste
4.4.1 Place non-hazardous waste in general waste containers.
4.4.2 Arrange for regular collection and disposal by an authorized waste management service.
4.5 Disposal of Hazardous Waste
4.5.1 Follow specific disposal instructions provided in the SDS for hazardous materials.
4.5.2 Use designated hazardous waste containers and ensure they are properly sealed and labeled.
4.5.3 Arrange for disposal by a certified hazardous waste disposal contractor.
4.6 Recycling
4.6.1 Segregate recyclable materials such as paper, cardboard, plastics, and metals.
4.6.2 Place recyclable materials in designated recycling bins.
4.6.3 Coordinate with recycling service providers for regular pick-up.
4.7 Record Keeping
4.7.1 Maintain records of waste disposal activities, including dates, types of waste, and disposal methods.
4.7.2 Retain records for a minimum of five years or as required by regulations.
